On 14 June 2013, 47 vintage Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts departed from Vienna, driving through Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and Italy before returning to Vienna on 29 June 2013 – exactly 100 years to the day that the 1913 Alpenfahrt finished. The faithful re-enactment celebrated the seminal 1913 Trials, a test of endurance that saw the Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost cement its reputation for faultless reliability – establishing the legend of the ‘Best Car in the World’. The cars tackled over 1,800 miles over some of the world’s most spectacular and challenging mountain passes.
Veho were privileged to provide support drivers for this prestigious event, using the exclusive Rolls Royce Ghost support vehicles to carry media and VIPs travelling with the fleet. RBA drivers Nigel McDade, Dan Relavic, Tony Leader and Chris Jones have driven for Rolls-Royce on many occasions and have the skills and expertise perfect for this type of event. Speaking from the route high in the Alps, Veho Driver Nigel McDade said ‘It was an honour and a privilege to be involved in this historical event and one of many I have worked on for Veho. There have been plenty of driving challenges along the way including tackling the famous Stelvio Pass, but our previous experience and knowledge of the cars as well the fundamental teamwork you need for this kind of job has enabled us to deliver a high standard of service and support the event in the best way possible. Everyone went the extra mile to make this an incredible experience we will never forget’.
